Keratin Treatments 101!

If you’re tired of dry frizzy brittle hair, then a keratin treatment might be right for you! Before you can refresh your locks with a keratin treatment, we want to guide you through this process. Keep reading to learn more about what a keratin treatment is and how it can transform your hair!

What is a Keratin Treatment? 

A keratin hair treatment is a process that smooths and adds shine to your hair by infusing it with a particular type of protein called keratin. The treatment works by coating each strand of hair with keratin, which seals the cuticle and helps protect the hair from damage.

Benefits of Keratin Treatments

If you suffer from frizzy, dry hair, keratin treatments are the perfect way to tame those stubborn locks! Keratin treatments are a healthy option compared to other smoothing treatments since this treatment fills in the porous gaps of your hair strands and smooths out your hair. Keratin treatments can also reduce the look of split ends by bonding the hair back together. As long as you care for a keratin treatment by not washing your hair too frequently (2 to 3 times a week max), then your keratin treatment can last up to 6 months. We recommend going at least 3 days before washing your hair or adding any product to help the keratin product set in properly. This treatment also helps to reduce frizz and makes hair easier to manage. 

The Process

Keratin treatments take time so don’t forget to pack snacks and sit with us for a couple of hours! To start off the treatment, we shampoo the hair, rough dry it, then apply the treatment solution to small sections of the hair by using an applicator brush and a comb to pull the cream through the hair. We let this sit for 60 - 90 minutes depending on if you’re looking to straighten, smooth or reduce frizz in your hair. We then seal the treatment with a blow dryer or straightener. By doing this, we create a humidity-resistant and frizz-free finish! After the formula has been applied, you’ll have to let it sit untouched for at least 72 hours.

Some Tips For Our Blonde Babes

Be aware that transitioning to red from a blonde base may be a two-step process. Going from blonde to red is a significant change and can take some adjustment. But don't fret, you don’t have to commit to red hair permanently.  Going back to blonde for the warmer months should happen in early April and we’ll be here when you’re ready to go back to your roots.
